The term media, which is the plural of medium, refers to the communication channels through which we disseminate news, music, movies, education, promotional messages and other data. It includes physical and online newspapers and magazines, television, radio, billboards, telephone, the Internet, fax and billboards. It describes the various ways through which we communicate in society. Because it refers to all means of communication, everything ranging from a telephone call to the evening news on television can be called media. However, in this article we are dealing with journalism and its use of discourse in manipulating and propagating the wanted news. Journalism is the activity of gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting news and information. It is also the product of these activities. Its main purpose is to provide citizens with the information they need to make the best possible decisions about their lives, their communities, their societies, and their governments. And so, Journalism’s claim to truthfulness and reliability is crucial for its existence. It is the basis of a shared social code between journalists and their public.
Institutional discourse is a very broad concept covering both the language system and speech activity and text. Moreover, the institutional discourse is based on a certain system of professionally-oriented signs, in other words, has its own specific sublanguage. However, Media discourse is characterized by topicality, which, however, does not always correspond to the real value and importance of the event. Furthermore, when it come to journalism discourse we cannot deny how discursive it is, because one of the news values that journalism works by is that “bad news are good news”, so it is quite clear that journalism specifically and media in general uses the power of discourse to disseminate an ideology, an idea or a myth. Journalism is not innocent neither media, they serve the same purpose which is the elite wish fulfillment to control over the masses.
